Those streaks are caused by an algae called gloeocapsa magma. This algae travels through the air from roof to roof and causes the staining on your shingles. The algae feeds off the limestone filler of asphalt shingles. If left to grow, it can in time, crack and curl your shingles thus shortening there lifespan.
